Yong Gang is a vessel traffic officer and he’s responsible for providing traffic information to vessels navigating in port and the Singapore Strait. Formerly a Navy regular, he transited to this role 3 1/2 years ago. He had to undergo specific training and supervision before being deployed to his role. While on shift, he oversees vessel traffic movement and conveys real-time info through VHF radio to shipmasters (ship captains). Due to high traffic intensity and complex navigational conditions, qualities like vigilance, patience and an ability to communicate clearly with international maritime crew are needed.Featuring host Joakim Gomez, he follows a real-world maritime professional on their daily duties.
