Although adopting Abbey was an impulsive decision, Derek has never regretted it as Abbey quickly took on the role to be his loyal friend and guardian angel. Losing her to cancer was heartbreaking - and he’s filled with regrets.

When she fell ill, Derek tenderly cared for her. But on that very fateful day when he went out for coffee, he returned home to a still and silent Abbey; she was already gone. Abbey was Derek's guardian angel, and he felt blessed to have been a part of her journey.
