“Then saviors shall come to Mount Zion to judge the mountains of Esau, And the kingdom shall be the LORD’s” (Obadiah 1:21).

Obadiah is the shortest book in the Old Testament.

Obadiah foreshadows the destruction and annihilation of Edom. Edom was a city built by the descendants of Esau; Israelites are the descendants of Jacob. When the Israelites asked Edom for help, the Edomites refused to come to their aid and chose instead to battle against them. A quarrel between the brothers Jacob and Esau has affected their descendants for over 1,000 years. The book Obadiah, only 21 verses long, ends with a promise of the fulfillment and deliverance of Zion in the Last Days when the Lord reigns from His Kingdom in Zion.
