Jeremiah warns of impending judgment due to idolatry, adultery, child sacrifices, and rampant immorality in Israel. Jeremiah urges the nation to turn back to God. After persistent rebellion by the Israelites, Jeremiah sees the Babylonian armies set fire to the Temple, the royal palace, and every house of Jerusalem.

The prophecies fulfilled when Nebuchadnezzar takes the Inhabitants of Jerusalem into exile, God uses Babylon to judge many nations, yet they will eventually receive judgment for their own wickedness according to Jeremiah.

Jeremiah delivers a prophetic message that from the descendants of David will come the Messiah, Jesus Christ (Jeremiah 23:5-6). Throughout the ordeal, David's line is preserved; King Jehoiachin is permitted to eat with Nebuchadnezzar - King of Babylon. This fulfills God's earlier promise to David in 2 Samuel 7:16 "Your house and your kingdom will endure forever before me; your throne will be established forever."
