Upavishta Konasana | Wide Angle Pose
Upavishta Konasana is like a breath of fresh air. After so many tight and condensed postures, here is an invitation to open your heart, spread your limbs, and lift your gaze toward the sky.
.
Having been so thoroughly stretched, wrung out and flattened at intervals on the floor, Upavishta Konasana is a welcome invitation.
.
This is a turning point in the sequence, from an increasingly apanic or downward movement toward the reverse. Here the series becomes suddenly open, warm, convivial and stays that way to the end.
.
The point is to raise all that energy that has been squeezed out from the hips, and bring it up through the hollow center of the body, where it can expand outward into the sky.
.
Upavishta Konasana brings the current into the heart, and spreads them upward and outward into the sky. This is a heart-centered form. Remembering this can help you find the alignment.
.
Instead of throwing the head all the way back, and beginning to round the spine, keep the head raised and the heart lifted, so you can express the radiant pattern of the prana from the inside.
