India’s new Solid Waste Management Rules 2026, which came into effect on April 1, 2026, emphasize a circular economy approach for better waste management. This new framework replaces the outdated 2016 rules and aims to encourage recycling, reuse, and efficient waste disposal. The rules also introduce a four-way waste segregation system and mandate stricter recycling measures, with penalties for non-compliance.
