Dementia and rude comments: What you can do to cope with caring for someone who treats your poorly
Welcome to the place where I share dementia tips, strategies, and information for family members caring for a loved one with any type of dementia (such as Alzheimer's disease, Lewy Body dementia, vascular dementia, frontotemporal dementia, etc.)
In today’s video, I’m talking about how to cope when your LOWD says mean, rude, or nasty things AND they’ve kind of always been rude to you. In the past, I talk about how the disease can sometimes cause a person to lose their filter and say things they wouldn’t necessarily say. One of my favorite ways of handling this situation is to remind yourself that it’s the disease talking rather than the person. However, many of you have told me it’s hard for you to believe it’s the disease because your LOWD has always been a negative, rude, or mean person.
This video goes over a way for you to cope with this situation by asking yourself a very important question. Once you have your answer to this question, you can remind yourself of that answer over and over to make future negative comments not sting so bad. I hope this video helps.

I hope that this work helps you in some way on your caregiving journey.
