Blown GTO done right | 1966 Pontiac GTO Mecum Houston

This 1966 Pontiac GTO at Mecum Houston isn’t a stock restoration—it’s a full custom built to handle serious power.

Originally, the GTO helped define the muscle car formula in the mid-60s: midsize body, big V8, and factory performance focus. This example takes that foundation much further.

Under the hood is a supercharged V8 rated around 540/850 horsepower, built with a polished roots-style blower setup. The engine bay is detailed to match, with clean routing and show-level finish. It’s paired with a Tremec TKO 700 5-speed manual, giving it modern drivability.

The chassis has been upgraded with rack-and-pinion steering using C6 Corvette components, a narrowed 9-inch rear end, and 3.55 gears. Four-wheel disc brakes and Schott concave wheels round out the build.

Inside, it’s been reworked with black and red leather, Dakota Digital gauges, and a custom console. It’s a full restomod approach—classic GTO shape with modern performance and usability.

This isn’t a numbers-matching car. It’s a purpose-built street machine that keeps the GTO identity but upgrades everything that matters.

What would you rather have—factory correct or fully built like this?
