2 tbsp vegetable oil
2 cloves garlic, minced
3 lbs pork shoulder, trimmed and cut into thick strips
1 tsp five-spice powder
1 tsp sesame oil
4 tbsp hoisin sauce
½ cup (120ml) water
8 oz (227g) maltose or honey
Salt to taste
1 tsp dark soy sauce
