- All right, so I chose UMass, I came on a really cloudy day to campus. My tour guide was a nursing major, so I got to speak first-hand at the nursing perspective as a student. But something specifically that I did, I went to the department and I contacted them to ask them more thoroughly how their program is separated from other schools in the country. What makes UMass Amherst nursing stand out? And hearing that there is an internship your Senior Spring, that's what I'm currently in, where you're paired one-on-one with a nurse and doing full-on nursing assessments and completing all of that, so by the end of the semester I'm gonna be the nurse and the nurse is gonna be following me. That was something I was interested in, 'cause I thought it would be most beneficial for helping me prepare my career. So, hearing about the program specifically. Also the number one dining. That's awesome, too.
- Yeah.
- So, Go UMass.
- Why I chose UMass was because I actually applied to a lot of smaller schools in the area, but also kind of all over the state. I really didn't know what I wanted to study, I actually changed my major three times before I landed on biomedical engineering. So, it goes to show that I was really unsure coming into college what I wanted to do. But my tour guide told me on tour, "you can always make a big school small, "but you can't do the opposite." And when I took away what I liked most about this university, which was its diverse academic programs, I still loved the environment. I got guaranteed transferred to a lot of schools for the Spring, but I chose to stay here at UMass 'cause I absolutely fell in love with the school and I couldn't imagine myself going elsewhere.
- All right, so I chose UMass, actually, it was the only school I applied to that wasn't in a big city. I thought I really wanted to go out and be my own person in a city, just have my schedule. I didn't really feel like I needed a campus. So when I came to UMass, I was a little skeptical and I absolutely fell in love with it. I loved how there were so many people that were here at UMass, so it felt like a city. I mean our library's a giant skyscraper. But I actually realized that I really did want a campus and wanted kind of a home base which is something that I saw in UMass and I didn't see at some other schools that I was looking at.
- Personally, I had a very, very extensive college application process and it was a lot and I toured a lot of places in the country. Well, when it came down to it, I really wanted to be closer to home, but not too close to home. And then I also came here and I was, kind of a day like this, and I think the way that it was, the way that it was structured, everyone was super positive and it was very organized. I came with my mom and I was like, I just looked at mom, and I was like, "Mom, this is my place." She's like, "All right, let's do it." And that was the last week I could pick a school, and I was really, really deciding when it really came down to it, it was UNH from New Hampshire, 'cause it's where I'm from, or UMass and they were very similar in rates, and one was in my state and one wasn't. So I was like, if it comes down to what I actually want, that's Massachusetts, and then I came here and it solidified my opinion of the school.
