- At the beginning of each semester UMass hosts a big activities expo, so they invite a lot of people who are part of organizations on campus. So for the water polo team, when I was in high school, I'd never actually swam in a pool with lines before, I ended up joining water polo because someone threw a ball in the air and I caught it and I decided to try out, but that activities expo is all types of organizations past just clubs and sports so really anything, everything you're interested in joining or if you want to make your own club you can get started doing that as well.
- There's also a lot of opportunities for on-campus employment for both work study and non-work study students. The career center here does an incredible job of hosting awesome career fairs and all the schools and colleges will also be hosting career fairs throughout the semester, so I feel very prepared to be entering the working world. That being said, I have had a job here on campus since I moved to campus, so opportunities for employment are plentiful.
- In addition to employment opportunities and fun activities, there are a lot of volunteer opportunities on and around campus. For example, in addition to my job and my school, I volunteer with the Center for Women and Community which is a crisis center for domestic violence and sexual assault. It's a really informative opportunity and they have a lot of post-grad employment opportunities as well. And on top of the clubs that are presented at the activities expo, a lot of clubs come to present to classes that are major based, so being in hotel tourism management, there are a whole bunch of organizations that I've gotten involved with in my first couple semesters here, it was like every single week someone came in to talk for the first five or 10 minutes of class about some club, some organization that they wanted you to join. I'm a member of the American Hotel Lodging Association, the Club Managers of America Association, and every major has their own clubs that go on cool field trips, have speakers come. They're a really great thing to get involved with and a really really great networking tool as well.
