When lightning strikes Texas Road-trip vanlife

I went through a massive thunderstorm while on a Texas road-trip. The national weather service was advising move to a first floor room and take cover. They were predicting 70 m.p.h. Gusts, quarter sized hail, extensive flooding. There were flood warnings over a 400 mile radius and mandatory beach evacuations.

Despite best efforts I was unable to outrun the storm. I was in my van parked at the Kerrvile safety rest area. At least I had the restroom structure for shelter if it became necessary.

They say if you have time find shelter and stay put. Wait for the storm to pass. In my case I was on a hill top so not worried about flooding up there. The rest area soon became bumper to bumper.
