Yes, In Our Back Yard! Supporting Affordable Housing in our Communities
Being a neighbour starts with being friendly to those who live around you, but being a neighbour can be much, much more. This workshop will explore a few examples of local engagement in Willowdale, a neighbourhood at the far north end of Toronto. One of the key issues is how a coalition of local religious leaders can work with multiple levels of government, other local community organizers and residents to help provide supportive housing for Toronto’s vulnerable people.

Facilitator: Jesse James works for Toronto City councillor for Willowdale, John Filion, and holds an MDiv from Tyndale Seminary with a focus on Canadian Christian history, community organizing, and urban development. He lives in Willowdale with his wife and three children. His family has been car-free since 2014 and are avid explorers of their neighbourhood. Jesse attends a local Lutheran church and enjoys finding ways of being a neighbour more and more.
