SAAL Digital Professional Line Glossy Photobook Review: Verona and Beyond

I had previously completed a documentary photography project when studying at the City of Glasgow College, however, I wasn't entirely pleased as I felt the majority of the photographs weren't taken by myself and although it was personal and the photographs were in order to tell a story, other people may not be able to make heads or tails out of the story and there was no text to direct the viewer to what is going on.

I had previously visited Rome in 2012 before I began my study in photography on the road to becoming a photographer and fell in love with the place. After completing my 3-years studying photography at the City of Glasgow College and the opportunity to go on holiday to the north of Italy in Verona and a variety of other surrounding places, I used this opportunity to capture and document my time there in a series of imagery.

I long planned to get a photobook made, one not just personal to myself but could showcase my work for my portfolio and I randomly came across an advertisement on Facebook from SAAL Digital offering a £100 discount to potential customers for their professional line photobooks. I must say a BIG thank you to SAAL Digital for that discount, but also their professional friendly and quick response when needed.

Their software was a breeze to learn and browse, as I have mentioned a few minor little details that were missing, it's nothing major. I accidentally created the photobook 'Veron and Beyond' in the U.S. software and could not export to load into the U.K.software, I'm guessing because the U.S. measurements and pricing differs and could not translate the file.

I am glad I quickly redone the photobook with everything completed, it allowed me to make certain improvements and when completed, the delivery process was pretty quick given the Convid-19 pandemic. One must bear in mind delivering from Germany to the United Kingdom.

SAAL Digital software was fun to use and love the variety of options they have to offer, they have an incredible library of backgrounds to choose from, clipart and even allow you to import your own transparent background PNG images in to create collages on your pages. The ability to overlap and even rotate the images was also a nice touch that I felt Blurb's software on Lightroom was sadly missing.

The Blurb photobook was still very professional with high quality prints and pages, although, when it comes to box display, SAAL Digital have showed a touch of class as the book doesn't move about inside when carrying, it sits nice and snugly cushioned inside. This is something that when showing to potential clients or employers is first class.

As I have explained, the photographs in gloss were wonderful, very colourful with a lot of punch. The quality of the paper I meant to add was very professional as you can see from the thick photo paper. The acrylic cover looks stunning and even with a lot of photographs I used in the centre or for double page spread photographs, you can barely see the seem which is very pleasing.

I used a X-rite i1 Display colour calibrator and the photographs from the photobook look just as fantastic as they do on screen, including the darker images that turned out beautifully.

Overall, I am absolutely delighted with the professional line book, it came included with the dust cover which was a nice touch and seeing the photobook first hand, I couldn't recommend them high enough.

Thank you!
