A muddy afternoon in the dam with Khanyisa, the Jabulani Herd and four buffalos

A muddy afternoon was enjoyed by most of the Jabulani Herd as they spent the hottest part of the day in a dam.

Each day is different when we observe them at the dam. Some days we think they will definitely enjoy long swims, but they choose not to and prefer the muddy shallows instead - this was one of those days.

They had some buffalo friends joining them again, though Lundi didn't seem to mind too much. She did, however, use her signature trunk spray to let them know she had her eyes on them!

Khanyisa rolled around between Lundi, Tokwe and Kumbura, none the wiser about the buffalos. She always feels safe in their loving company!

The dam waters are dwindling, which is usual for this time of year, ahead of the summer rains. A few people have asked about this and if we can fill the dams. We leave the various dams on the reserve to nature (there are many!), but we do keep one particular dam closer to the lodge full throughout the year.
