Minnehaha Falls: A Quick Walk to One of Georgia’s Prettiest Waterfalls
Minnehaha Falls is one of the easiest—and prettiest—waterfalls to reach in North Georgia. The trail is just 0.4 miles each way, with about 100 feet of elevation gain, making it a perfect stop if you’re already near Lake Rabun or exploring Tallulah Gorge.
Is it worth a visit? Absolutely, just don't make it your entire trip. You'll want to find additional things to see to make it a full day trip.
🥾 Trail Stats:
📍 Location: Rabun County, GA – near Lake Rabun
📏 Distance: 0.4 miles one way (0.8 miles round trip)
⛰️ Elevation Gain: ~100 feet
⏱️ Time: 15–30 minutes round trip
💧 Waterfall Height: ~60 feet, cascading tiers
🟢 Difficulty: Easy
🅿️ Parking: Small pull-off on Flat Creek Rd (limited space)
⚠️ Notes: Slippery rocks—enjoy from the base, not the falls
The falls drop around 60 feet in a series of wide, moss-covered ledges that feel more like natural stairs than a single plunge. It’s an incredibly photogenic spot, especially in spring and after rain—but it can also be slippery and steep. Best to enjoy the view from the base and leave the climbing to the water.
The name “Minnehaha” comes from the Dakota Sioux language and loosely translates to “waterfall” or “laughing water.” You’ll see it on several falls around the country, but this one in Rabun County might be Georgia’s most photogenic take on the name.
Trail access is easy but not well-marked, so look for the small pull-off near Flat Creek Road. Parking is limited to only a few spots.
