In the video we highlight what many many bad installers do, the installer caps off the overflow pipe, this means that when the Elson overheats (usually due to a faulty immersion heater) the water rises up through Elson and cannot escape via the overflow/discharge pipe (as it plugged/capped off) and therefore flows over the top of the tank and on to the floor. A Thameside property that had a Elson which had the discharge pipe plugged/capped off caused over £50,000 of damage when it leaked into a neighbours property.
If the ball-valve also seizes or gets stuck - then the cold water will overflow on to the floor and flood the property.

The tank body is made up of soft 1.2mm (not 12mm) copper, the tank is basically a large kettle which scales up, after many years and the lime-scale attacks and corrodes the copper which becomes brittle and tears.
It is common for the large threads inside the Elson tank where the immersion heater is installed to 'rip and tear' when the immersion is changed, when this happens you have to replace the whole Elson Boiler.
