How to weld a brace to transport multiple kayaks on roof racks

This is a short welding project that will allow you to secure multiple kayaks on their sides to the roof of a vehicle that is already fitted with strong transverse rectangular rack bars. Details of the construction and design of an old-style vertical steel kayak brace are shown.

This system is secure enough on my vehicle without front or rear stabilizer straps. However if there is any tendency for your boats to slide forward or backward, you may need additional stabilization straps.
