Not all test lights are created equal
This is a brief comparative review of the properties of traditional diagnostic test lights used in automotive repair. Test lights have variable resistance and variable current thresholds, below which the light won't burn brightly enough to be visible. The variable resistance is an important property, one that defines how much current the light will allow to spill downstream. Therefore it would be wise to for you to study your test light to see what kind of current it draws, and to study how the brightness of your light varies depending on applied voltage. This video shows how to assess your test light so that you can better understand the results it is gives you.
