Insurance Renewals: Why You Shouldn't Auto-Renew Blindly (14.8.1)
Insurance is not a set-it-and-forget-it layer, and the renewal calendar is the single discipline that keeps the protective coverage from drifting silently over time. Carriers shift their products. Your practice shifts in revenue, geography, and engagement type. Carrier behavior on renewal shifts — sometimes adding exclusions that were not in the original policy, sometimes adjusting premiums by amounts that don't match the underlying claim history. The sixty-day re-quote is the practical mechanic that drives the discipline.
This unit walks the sixty-day window math (carrier non-renewal notice rules, broker shopping time, the actual decision window), the six-condition switch-versus-renew decision (three on each side), the broker-incumbent relationship bias to watch for, and the load-bearing callback to the AI-exclusion language from Unit 14.1.2.
Chapters:
0:00 Auto-Renewal Is Silent Drift
0:46 Three Things That Shift Every Year
1:38 The Sixty-Day Re-Quote Mechanic
2:26 Why Sixty Days, Not Thirty
3:15 Switch vs Renew: Six Conditions
4:08 Broker-Incumbent Relationship Bias
5:02 AI-Exclusion Check at Every Renewal
5:52 Renewal as Annual Founding-Layer Maintenance
6:41 Build the Renewal Calendar Now
In this lesson:
• Why renewals aren't a passive event — carrier products shift, practice shifts, carrier renewal behavior shifts
• The sixty-day re-quote — calendar reminder set sixty days before every policy renewal date
• Why sixty days isn't arbitrary — some carriers require 30-day non-renewal notice; you need shopping time inside that
• Switch vs renew — six-condition decision, three reasons to switch, three reasons to stay
• Broker-incumbent relationship bias — a good broker still shops the market on renewal; ask for documentation
• The AI-exclusion check at every E&O renewal — callback to Unit 14.1.2; the Founding Pack action made permanent
