Meta buys stake in Scale AI, raising antitrust concerns

Meta Platforms, Inc. has invested $14.3 billion in Scale AI, acquiring a 49% stake in the San Francisco-based startup. This deal values Scale at over $29 billion and positions Scale as a key player in Meta's AI expansion. Scale co-founder and CEO Alexandr Wang will lead Meta's new superintelligence unit. Wang, a self-made billionaire who dropped out of MIT, has been recognized for his AI expertise and has testified before Congress. The investment aims to accelerate the deployment of Scale's data solutions and strengthen strategic partnerships. Meta will hold a minority stake in Scale, and the deal includes provisions for liquidity distribution to Scale shareholders and equity holders. Alexandr Wang will continue to serve on Scale's Board of Directors while working with Meta on AI efforts. The transaction raises antitrust concerns due to Meta's growing influence in the tech industry.
