Water monitor protecting it's nest? 4K

Found this lizard next to a dam in Hluhluwe-Imfolozi Park. It stayed around the bush on the waters edge and did not move away far the entire time. Could it be nesting? My knowledge with these creatures are limited so I have no idea.
