Canon EOS Ra - Why I LOVE it.
In this video we take a look at the relatively new Canon EOS Ra. This is a special version of the Canon EOS R that is optimized for #astrophotography and has two very distinctive differences.
First, the “a” model is about three times more sensitive to the Hydrogen-Alpha wavelength of light (656nm). This wavelength is the red color you see in most nebula images. Most cameras block the majority of this color of light as it can create weird colors in non-astro images.
Second, the EOS Ra has 30x live view zoom. Most cameras in live view can digitally zoom to 10x which makes it very difficult to zoom into small stars. With 30x it becomes so much easier to identify if stars are sharp or not in your astro images.
Overall, this is a fantastic camera that is extremely capable for both traditional photography and astrophotography. In my opinion the only shortcomings are the fact that the camera does not have a built-in intervalometer, or an option to use a shutter speed longer than 30 seconds without bulb. I hope Canon will add the features in the future, as with those additions I think this camera would be perfect.
