PLANTAR FASCIA #PLANTAR APONEUROSIS | PLANTAR ARCHES [Part 2]Ankle series 12
Detailed discussion of the plantar fascia or plantar aponeurosis. Plantar fascia is a specialized form of deep fascia that covers the entire aspect of foot. The plantar fascia starts from the medial tubercle of calcaneum and runs anteriorly to the metatarsal heads at plantar plates and then attach to the proximal phalanges. Plantar aponeurosis enable efficent disspitation of the compressive and tensile loads that acts on the foot.
The plantar facia works in a TIE ROD AND TRUSS MECHANICSM. Where the tie rod is formed by the plantar fasica and the anterior and posterior struss are formed by the tarsal bones and metatarsals. There is a complex mechanicsm through which the plantar fascia regulates the height of plantar arches through the MTP. And this mechanicsm is known as windlass mechanism. The windlass mechanicsm is explained in detail. The mechanics and biomechanics of functioning of plantar arches are explained in the most simplified manner through demonstrations and examples.
