(28 Mar 2008)
San Diego, California -19 March, 2008
1. Medium of Long Range Acoustical Device (LRAD) being demonstrated by operator

3. Close up of man running away whilst covering ears
4. SOUNDBITE: (English) Elwood 'Woody' Norris, chairman American Technology:
"I can look over a fence on a border and talk to someone more than a mile away clearly, and believe me it can also be used as a deterrent to people."
5. Medium of LRAD device playing message
6. Close up of LRAD sign on device, UPSOUND continues
7. UPSOUND: Zoom in from 150 meters away to LRAD while hearing it's message perfectly clear
8. SOUNDBITE: (English) Elwood 'Woody' Norris, chairman American Technology:
"What we add which is critical is directionality. That's our claim to fame. This guy has a 40 plus decibel component from front to side to back. That means I can stand beside it or behind it when it's playing very loud and carry on a conversation, I can talk on my cell phone. The other thing is because it's so directional I am focusing the energy."
9. UPSOUND: Demonstration of LRAD's directionality with warning tone
10. Close up of volume control button
11. SOUNDBITE: (English) Elwood 'Woody' Norris, chairman American Technology:
"One report I heard from a military person, that as soon as you play the deterrent tones, it's familiar now and they scurry out of there. They don't want to experience it anymore and you know, who knows how many lives that saves, both on the other side and on our side. They couple these things with a turret, with a machine gun, and quite often they don't have to use the machine gun."
12. Man cringing from sonic blast from LRAD
13. LRAD playing messages in different languages
14. Close up of battle hardened MP3 player
15. UPSOUND: Warning message in French
16. Medium of man assembling LRAD
17. Medium of woman assembling LRAD component
18. Close up of assembly
19. SOUNDBITE: (English) Elwood 'Woody' Norris, chairman American Technology:
"You shoot the sound in the window or door and they leave quickly. Shoot it in caves, they leave. I've heard of one of the police departments here in California serving a verbal warrant and they are a 100 to 200 yards away, out of harms way from someone who refuses to come out of their house or hotel room."
20. Wide of different models of LRAD
21. Close pan down of LRAD 1000 which is remotely controlled
22. Close up of camera and searchlight mounted on LRAD
23. Close up of Norris handling small handheld LRAD model playing warning tone
24. SOUNDBITE: (English) Elwood 'Woody' Norris, chairman American Technology:
"There have been instances of where people have said: 'What if they wear ear plugs or put their fingers in their ears?' The device is designed with sufficient intensity that really doesn't do a heck of a lot. We've got some sounds that we play that will vibrate your head, shake your chest."
25. Men with fingers in their ears
26. Norris running from warning tones
LEAD-IN:
There is a way to disperse crowds, scare off military enemies or repel pirates other than by rattling weapons - with a device emitting a sound so loud it makes people run off their own account.
Orders are coming in from the United States military, foreign governments and police forces for the device that the manufacturer claims is saving lives on the battlefront and at home.
