VOCES8 and Apollo5 sing Paul Smith's 'Distant Earth Renewal' from the album 'Renewal?'.

‘Distant Earth Renewal’ features Foundation ensembles VOCES8 and Apollo5, alongside Teena Lyle (vibraphone), Caroline Dale (cello), Roger Chase (viola), and Paul himself (piano), and is released across all streaming platforms alongside this film which was commissioned from landscape cinematographer Stephen Proctor. The film of ‘Distant Earth Renewal’ will also feature in the new ‘Natural Resonance Festival - Creativity inspired by Nature' on 29 January 2022.
Written with the intention of lasting 4’33’’ ‘Distant Earth Renewal' is the second pre-release single composed by Paul on the album and sits alongside works including John Cage’s iconic ‘4’33’’. ‘Renewal?’ is a concept album, which combines new commissions by Paul and Donna McKevitt with three musical pillars from the 20th Century, by William Walton, John Cage and William Henry Harris.
Multifaceted texts by Lal Ded, Edmund Spenser, W.H. Auden, Lord Byron, Pablo Neruda, Maya Angelou and Edna St Vincent Millay offer space to consider our world, past and present, and meditate on a response to build a better future.

Frigid rally of death,
Dance of transition.
Cold winds whisper,
Last sonnet of winter,
First song of spring,
