I started going hard on YouTube in May. I realized during the pandemic that it was going to be the way of the future. If I took it seriously, it would help my business and I could impact a lot more people. I knew that YouTube would start paying be through Adsense eventually, but I didn’t realize how much and how quick it would happen.

Here is a quick rundown of how you get paid on YouTube. Once you have 4000 hours of watch time and 1000 subscribers you will qualify for ads to be placed on your page. Those advertisers will then pay YouTube based on CPM. CPM stand for Cost Per Milli. Essentially how much an advertiser will pay per 1000 views on your channel.

CPM varies by niche. Finance channels like mine have some of the highest paying CPM because advertisers will pay more. For the month mine ended up being around $34 which is absurd. Many other channels only make $3-4. To make 10x what they make per 1000 views makes being profitable much easier.

Once the advertisers are running ads, you will receive 55% of the profit. YouTube takes the other 45%. So you don’t receive that full CPM amount. Even though I don’t have a big channel, I was able to make a lot my first month because of my niche. I can’t wait to see how much it is as my channel grows. Thank you all for the support!
