Ben-Gvir slams Netanyahu for releasing Global Sumud Flotilla activists

Israel’s far-right National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir has lashed out at Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s move to release the detained Global Sumud Flotilla activists and let them return to their home countries.

Ben-Gvir, who earlier visited the prison where the activists were held, accused Netanyahu of being too lenient. In a post on X dated 3 October, he called the activists “terror supporters” and said they should be kept in Israeli prisons “for a few months” to “smell the scent of the terrorists’ wing.”

“It cannot be that the Prime Minister sends them back to their countries again and again — and this sending causes them to return again and again,” Ben-Gvir wrote.

His remarks came amid growing backlash over multiple videos showing his confrontational stance. One clip from 2 October shows Ben-Gvir referring to the flotilla members as “terrorists” while they awaited transfer to prison. In another, filmed inside a security facility on the next day, he boasted that the activists were being treated “like terrorists for all intents and purposes.”
