BLUE MOON OF KENTUCKY (2003) by the Department of Bluegrass (Canberra, Australia)

I only caught the last two performances of Canberra bluegrass band 'The Department of Bluegrass'. One of these was at a local Canberra folk club called 'the Merry Muse' and they had the place moving and shaking like they were a rockabilly band. I was very impressed, particularly with singer and guitarist Chris Jacobs, but unfortunately for the band he was moving south to Melbourne to join another bluesgrass band. He currently plays with Melbourne band, Bluestone Junction along with fiddle player Donal Baylor also from the Department of Bluegrass.

I also loved that they played live around one microphone and took turns getting up close to it, depending who was singing or doing a solo.

The band consisted of:

Donal Baylor - Fiddle
Chris Jacobs - Lead vocals and guitar
Tony Hunter - Mandolin and vocals
John Taylor - Banjo and vocals
Sam Martin - Double bass

This was a recording of the band playing live in a local radio station studio. I have made a slideshow video using as many photos as I could find of the band.
