Subhash Shirodkar said Goa’s dams currently have sufficient water storage which is expected to last till the monsoon intensifies around June 10 to 15. He added that along with the dams, the government has also focused on constructing several small bunds and barrages to improve water conservation across different regions.

Speaking about water availability, the Minister said that at present the government is not pursuing the proposed project of installing solar panels on dams in Goa. He said discussions had taken place earlier regarding floating solar panels on dam waters, and reports had also emerged about possible projects on some reservoirs, but clarified that no such work is currently being taken forward.

Shirodkar informed that out of nearly 100 proposed bunds and barrages, around 80 projects have already been completed, while work on the remaining structures is still ongoing wherever feasible.

The Minister also said efforts are being made to identify more areas requiring water conservation projects and assured that development works in the sector will continue in the future.
