Anthony Phillips Talks Honestly on Genesis Replacement Steve Hackett

Anthony Phillips & His Replacement in Genesis Steve Hackett – Mutual Admiration Friends
Sometime there's competition between members of band – a little rivalry certainly made the Beatles a better band but sometimes things turn ugly between a band member and the guy who replaced him. Not so for original Genesis guitarists Anthony Phillips, who left after their second album “Trespass” and his replacement Steve Hackett who himself would eventually leave the band after the "Wind & Wuthering" tour in 1977.

I talked to Phillips yesterday and told him about my chat with Hackett six months ago. When I reminded him that he was one of the most prolific member of Genesis Hackett quickly mentioned Anthony Phillips who has been involved in almost 60 recording – solo, collaborations and collections.
I had to ask Phillips about their relationship.

We just did a story on Linda Ronstadt not liking any of her albums – she couldn't even listen to them. It wasn't exactly news since she's publicly said many times that she wasn't crazy about any of her hits especially the stuff from the 70 so I had to ask the guitarist if he can listen to his older stuff?

Phillips has just released a remastered 2-disc deluxe edition of his album “Invisible Men” that was originally released in the U.S. in 1983 and 84 in the U.K. It was a departure for the guitarist since, for the most part, It was a pop project. Something he had mixed feelings about releasing.
