"We came here and wanted to support people who survived after Russian occupation. Because in Kyiv it was (a) normal situation, but here it was really awful. People left their homes. and their houses were broken, a lot of houses (were) ruined. We wanted to help them rebuild, fix their houses and clean the territory."

"Techno parties, especially rave festivals, it was our lifestyle before when we met with friends and spent time. Last summer every weekend festivals (were) here in Ukraine, in Kyiv. So, we miss it and we want to come back to normal life but our normal life now is volunteering."

STORYLINE:
More than 200 people took part in a techno music party in a bombed-out building in northern Ukraine on Sunday.
The revelers were both enjoying the music while cleaning and helping rebuild an area devastated by the Russian occupation only months previously.
The daytime "clean-up rave" was organized by young Ukrainians who have been using dance parties as a way to contribute to recovery effort in parts of the country's north which have suffered major damage by Russian bombardment.  
"Techno parties, especially rave festivals, it was our lifestyle before when we met with friends and spent time. Last summer every weekend festivals (were) here in Ukraine, in Kyiv. So, we miss it and we want to come back to normal life but our normal life now is volunteering," said one of the group's organisers.
Shovels in hand, the volunteers toss piles of debris into the loader of a tractor from the remnants of a village cultural center that was destroyed in March by a rocket strike, while a DJ plays nearby.
Ukraine's vibrant club scene was brought to an abrupt halt with the Russian invasion on Feb. 24, and with a night time curfew now in effect in the capital Kyiv, adherents of Ukraine's party culture have sought a way to combine the fun and freedom of a festival with rebuilding the country they love.  
Most of the volunteers, primarily in their 20s and 30s, came from Kyiv, about two hours' drive away.
But others have come from the western city of Lviv and also nearby Chernihiv, while some foreign volunteers have arrived from Portugal, the United States, Germany and elsewhere.
The clean-up at the cultural center in Yahidne was the group's eighth event so far, and they have already helped repair 15 damaged homes in the village.
