BMW N20 Vacuum Pump & Boost Solenoid Replacement DIY (X3, X1, Z4, 328i, 528i, 320i & More!)

►This DIY addresses one of the easiest jobs you can do on the ever-popular N20 engine: the vacuum pump. On this particular DIY, we're using a 3-Series BMW F30, but it's also applicable to a handful of other vehicles listed in the description below.

Some of the signs you may need to replace your vacuum pump are if your car enters limp mode and displays a "Drivetrain Malfunction" Warning light. Also, if you're noticing a leak coming from your vacuum pump, or if your engine cover is full of oil, those could also be signs you need to replace your vacuum pump.

The N20 boost solenoid is also worth doing at the same time for earlier models. On the later models, the wastegate is controlled electronically, therefore you don't have to replace the solenoid. The vacuum pump itself and the associated gasket, however, are the exact same process between both models.
