“I’m HERE”, “I’m THERE and “I’m OVER THERE” in Tagalog | Demonstrative Pronouns PART 10 (E142)
#tagalog #filipino #philippines
This is PART 10 of the series on the Tagalog version of DEMONSTRATIVE PRONOUNS, or names that are used to point out objects when talking about them, like, THIS, THAT, THESE and THOSE in English.
In Tagalog, DEMONSTRATIVE PRONOUNS are called, PANGHALIP PAMATLIG, which is more extensive than the English counterpart. We have the following categories:
• Direct (Paturol)
• Indirect (Paári)
• Oblique (Paúkol)
• Locative (Panlunan)
• Existential (Pahimaton)
In this video, we will start discussing the FIFTH category of demonstrative pronouns, the EXISTENTIAL Demonstrative Pronouns, which have two versions each. These are:
• HETÓ : is HERE
• AYÁN : is THERE
• AYÁN : is OVER THERE
EXISTENTIAL demonstrative pronouns are used to point out the existence of the subject. They are also called by some linguists as the PRESENTATIVE demonstrative pronouns.
The following are the main uses of the EXISTENTIAL demonstrative pronouns:
1. When pointing out the existence of a subject
2. When presenting a subject
3. When capturing the presence of a subject moving from one location to another location
4. When pointing out the existence of a subject as a response to a question
5. When pointing out the current state of the subject
6. Stating an obvious situation
In this video, we will be discussing the FIRST THREE uses. We will discuss the other three in the next video.
