Shinzo Abe was born on September 21, 1954 in Tokyo, the capital of Japan. He belongs to a prominent political family. His grandfather Kishi Nobusuke was Prime Minister of Japan from 1957 to 1960 and his cousin Sato Eisaku from 1964 to 1972. Abe graduated from Seigei University in Tokyo and studied political science at the University of Southern California, USA.

Returning to Japan in 1979, he became active in the Liberal-Democratic Party (LDP). And in 1982, he began working as a secretary to his father, Abe Shintaro, who was Japan's foreign minister. Since then he has served in many important positions. In 2006, he assumed responsibility for the first time as the Prime Minister of Japan.
