È bastata mezz'ora di pioggia alla partenza per trasformarla in una gara ancora più eroica. Erano in 2012 (.lo stesso numero dell'anno in corso) all'alba di sabato 23 giugno pronti a diventare protagonisti della terza Suedtirol Sellaronda HERO, la maratona in mountain bike che gira "intorno" al gruppo del Sella, nel cuore delle Dolomiti. C'è chi ha scelto il percorso degli eroi, quello di 82 chilometri, chi ha optato per quello breve di 52 ma pur sempre con 2.700 metri di dislivello, per tutti comunque una giornata con cerchiolino rosso da mettere sul diario. Lo stesso cerchiolino che ha annotato il colombiano Leonardo Paez vincitore della Suedtirol Sellaronda HERO tra gli uomini, mentre nelle fila femminili ha firmato uno splendido bis la tedesca Katrin Schwing. Gli altri? Tutti eroi, nessuno escluso.

Half-hour of rain before the start -: that is all it took for the race to take an even more heroic turn. 2012 bikers (the same number as the year of the race!) readied themselves at dawn last Saturday, 23rd June, ready to become the main characters in the running of the third editon of Suedtirol Sellaronda HERO, the moutain bike marathon which circles the Sella mountain group in the heart of the Dolomites. Some of the bikers chose the truly heroic challenge of 82 km while others took the shorter one of 52 km; even this shorter race involved a difference of altitude of 2700 metres. A day that all competitors will certainly have marked in red in their diary. A day to remember indeed for the winner of the mens race, the Colombian Leonardo Paez, while the womens winner had double cause for celebration - the German biker Katrin Schwing finishing on top of the podium for the second year running. And what about the others? All heroes, with not a single exception!.

Eine halbe Stunde Regen genau in der Startzeit reichte, um das Rennen noch heroischer als sonst ausfallen zu lassen: 2012 Biker gingen in den Morgenstunden des Samstag, 23. Juni, an den Start des dritten Südtirol Sellaronda HERO, des Mountainbike-Marathons, der einmal um das in den Herzen der Dolomiten gelegene Sellamassiv herumführt. Ob sich die Teilnehmer nun für die „Helden-Strecke" mit ihren 82 km Länge entschieden hatten, oder ob sie die 52 km Strecke absolvierten (die immer noch 2.700 m Höhendifferenz aufwies) - für alle war es ein Tag, den man sich im Kalender rot anstreicht. Der gleiche Rotstift, mit dem die Organisatoren den Kolumbianer Leonardo Paez ins Goldene Buch der Sieger eintrugen, denn er entschied den Südtirol Sellaronda HERO in der Herren-Kategorie für sich. Bei den Damen gewann bereits zum zweiten Mal im Folge die Deutsche Katrin Schwing. Und alle anderen? Sind Helden, ohne Ausnahme.
