FIH Men's Hockey World Cup inaugurated // Cabinet approves Rs 2600cr to promote Rupay debit card

On Wednesday, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik inaugurated the FIH Men's Hockey World Cup 2023 at Cuttack's Barabati Stadium (January 11). Anurag Singh Thakur, Union Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs, and several senior officials from the International Hockey Federation (FIH) were also present. Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik delivered the inaugural address at the opening ceremony of the Hockey World Cup, which is being held in the eastern state of India for the second time in a row, with the 2018 edition also taking place in Odisha. The return of the marquee hockey competition has delighted CM Patnaik.

The Union Cabinet approved a 2,600-crore incentive scheme on Wednesday to promote Rupay debit card and low-value BHIM-UPI transactions (person-to-merchant) in FY23. The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, made a decision in this regard. Union Minister Bhupender Yadav told the media today that the incentives will be given on the use of Rupay debit cards and BHIM UPI.
