New at UH: Extending Battery Life, Cellular Electric Fields, Gregory Dudley Joins NSM as Dean

Scientists have historically struggled to figure out what happens inside a solid-state battery in real time, but a team led by University of Houston electrical and computer engineering professor Yan Yao figured out how to operate the batteries under lower pressure to extend their life. Also, new evidence from researchers at UH suggests that human cells are incredibly sensitive to electrical fields, challenging assumptions about the limits of cellular electrical sensing and explaining how cells detect electric fields with remarkable sensitivity. Finally, veteran academic leader and chemist Gregory Dudley, a former chair of West Virginia University’s chemistry department, will join NSM as Dean on Aug. 1.
