What's the perfect driverless car? It depends who you ask | Ryan Jenkins | TEDxCalPoly

The future of technological innovation doesn’t depend on any one individual or group of people. Instead, hard ethical decisions have to be made through a collaborative effort between various parties. In one specific case, philosophers, policy makers, and engineers must work together to develop one of the most exciting technologies coming in the next 10 years: autonomous vehicles.

Dr. Ryan Jenkins studies the moral dimensions of technologies with the potential to profoundly impact human life. He is an assistant professor of philosophy and a Senior Fellow at the Ethics & Emerging Sciences Group at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. His interests include the ethics of transformative technologies such as driverless cars, robots, algorithms, and autonomous weapons (AKA killer robots). He is concerned with how these technologies intersect with duties of justice, how they stand to restructure our activities, and how they enable or encumber meaningful human lives.
