Japanese Maple Bonsai Soil
In this video, I will show you what I use for my Japanese maple bonsai trees and how I prepare the soil for the repotting season.
I am more traditional so I like to use Akadama (Japanese baked clay) for nicer trees and small tree. The soil mix is usually 2:1:1 or 1:1:1(Akadama, Lava, Pumice) or 7:3 or 6:4 (Akadama, pumice).
For young trees and nursery stock, I use the mix of sifted pine bark & pumice that are readily available in my area and provides a good balance of water retention and drainage that Japanese maples like.
