Criticisms of Beckian Cognitive Therapy
This video describes some of the criticisms of cognitive therapy. Cognitive therapy was developed by Aaron Beck. Some of these limitations apply to cognitive therapy and cognitive behavioral therapy in general. Cognitive therapy (CT) is type of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). Some of the limitations include the nature of reframing, the role of stressors in the cognitive model, the role of irrational thinking, a cold or mechanistic style, the critical nature of insight, tendency to be boring, and the questionable effectiveness of the cognitive component as compared to the behavioral component.
