Ian Bremmer & Tom Nichols: Globalization, Populism, and American Politics

Populism suggests that the average citizen can enjoy the benefits of "globalization" without subscribing to the requirements of "globalism"— especially the tradeoffs that come from the costs of maintaining trade pacts and alliance commitments that define the current international system. If populism is a reaction to a globalism that is viewed as unresponsive to the needs of citizens, can populism sustain any version of globalization?

Please join Ian Bremmer, author of Us Versus Them: The Failure of Globalism, and Tom Nichols, author of The Death of Expertise, to discuss and debate these questions.

Leading the discussion will be Nikolas Gvosdev, Carnegie Council senior fellow, professor of national security affairs at the U.S. Naval War College, and holder of the Captain Jerome E. Levy Chair in economic geography and national security.
