Cole Thomas Allen was taken into custody after opening fire near the magnetometer screening area during the White House Correspondents Dinner while President Trump, First Lady Melania Trump, Vice President JD Vance and top cabinet members were inside the ballroom. Authorities say the suspect was armed with a shotgun, handgun, and multiple knives.

U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro confirmed Allen will be arraigned Monday in D.C. federal court on charges including using a firearm during a crime of violence and assault on a federal officer. Investigators are examining his manifesto sent to family members minutes before the attack that referenced him as the "Friendly Federal Assassin" and outlined plans to target Trump officials. The writings reportedly show strong anti Christian and anti Trump administration views.

Allen, a Torrance California resident and former attendee of No Kings protests, had ties to a group called The Wide Awakes according to White House sources. President Trump called the suspect a very sick guy who deeply hated Christians. Law enforcement acted quickly to stop what could have been far worse at the high profile Washington DC event.
