A former FBI agent ripped into the Secret Service after their "army-level" perimeter at the Washington Hilton was completely beaten by nothing more than a hotel room key.

The suspect, Cole Thomas Allen from Torrance California, was a registered guest which reportedly allowed him to bypass heavy security and get dangerously close during the high-profile event with President Trump, Melania Trump, and top officials inside.

FBI Director Kash Patel responded directly, saying the agency will review the incident and work with DHS to improve security for all future events. He emphasized learning from this failure while utilizing President Trump’s strong support for law enforcement to better protect the Cabinet, protectees, and American civilians.

This comes as Cole Thomas Allen faces federal charges following the April 25 2026 shooting attempt at the Washington Hilton during the White House Correspondents Dinner.
