Broadly Speaking: New Voices in Food
It's been a huge year in food media and for this Broadly Speaking talk, we'll bring together three superb food writers to chew over the debates and developments of 2020.
In the US, there were mass resignations at Conde Nast's hugely popular Bon Appetit YouTube channel, following allegations of racism and inequity. In Australia, the revamped Masterchef was hailed as the most diverse series yet. Viewers fell in love with new Singaporean-Australian judge Melissa Leong and the increased focus on Asian cuisines and ingredients.
Our ideas about authenticity, appropriation and representation are changing when it comes to food media. At this talk, we'll hear from three women who are a big part of this reckoning and reinvigoration across America and Australia: James Beard Award–winning writer and Ugly Delicious guest Osayi Endolyn, bestselling Sydney-based food writer and cook Hetty McKinnon and The Unbearable Lightness of Being Hungry podcaster and freelance writer Lee Tran Lam.
They'll talk about their personal food histories and philosophies, and how they’re working towards a more inclusive and delicious food world.
The Broadly Speaking series is proudly supported by Krystyna-Campbell Pretty AM and family.
