Question:

A positive integer when divided by 88 gives the remainder 61. What will be the remainder when the same number is divided by 11?

Solution:

By Euclid Division Lemma,

a = bq + r

Given,

a = 88q + 61

Now divide by 11:

a / 11 = (88q + 61) / 11

Since 88 is divisible by 11,

61 = 11 x 5 + 6

Therefore, the remainder is 6.
