Abandoned & Freezing | The Coldest Abandoned Places

Since it’s freezing and I’m always cold, I wanted to go over the coldest abandoned video shoots I’ve done so far and give you some behind the scenes info on them.

First up is Ponyhenge, the rocking horse graveyard. It’s part abandoned attraction and part art installation. No one knows how these got here, but more keep gathering, and they frequently change formations. Some have been left as a monument to lost loved ones, making this a special place that I have a lot of respect for.

Next are the Ram Tail Factory remains aka the only place in New England officially designated as “haunted” in a state census. This has got to be my favorite Rhode Island legend because the abandoned remains of the mill are still in the woods from two hundred years ago completely alone in the woods. The story goes that the ghost of a man named Peleg Walker roams the forest after his tragic death in the Ram Tail Mill. It’s said that at midnight you can still hear the factory’s bell tolling, echoing through the trees.

Finally, easily the coldest shoot of my life so far, the abandoned train station, which I shot with my friend Dave Lawlor on literally the coldest day of the year. It was 9 degrees outside the station, and felt a bit colder inside the station from all the concrete. I figured the colder the day the less trouble we’d have exploring in terms of people stopping us or activity inside the station. I wasn’t anticipating it being the COLDEST day, but it had been planned for a few weeks and we weren't gonna let that stop us.
