1986 Donegal Rally

Continuing on the Donegal Rally Weekend Theme we should now be at the End of Day 1 but unfortunately this is not the case but instead we go back to 1986 when again we had another Classic Event,following on from the 1985 Rally Billy Coleman was back to defend his Crown and make it 3 Victories in a Row,Austin McHale had other ideas on this though and was determined to turn the Tables on Coleman after the Millstreet Man picked Victory right out of McHales hands at the very last minute to seal a late win from a bitterly dissappointed McHale 1 year earlier,this time McHale went flat out from the start in his Manta and with Coleman out in the Metro 6R4 for the first time it took Billy time to get used of the Noisy Metro 6R4 which was a totally different Beast to any other Car he had ever competed in and with some Mechanical issues being had as well with the Metro Billy found himself well behind in 7th place with Austin building up a 3 min lead over Donegal Man James Cullen in his Nissan 240RS,on Day 2 though things changed the Prodrive Boys sorted the Metro out fully and Coleman started to go a lot quicker and Austin McHale went off the road and lost a lot of time and in the end Billy Coleman eventually overhauled James Cullen in his Nissan to record a superb Victory,Cyril Bolton finished 3rd in another Metro 6R4 with Local Competitors James McDaid and John Connors finishing 4th and 5th in Manta 400`s,1983 winner Vincent Bonner had a troubled Event with Punctures and a couple of trips into the Scenery to finish a lowly 7th overall after performing strongly in the early Stages while John Lyons was giant killing in the small Honda Civic to finish 8th overall and in the end Austin McHale could only finish 11th place what was a dissappointing Event for him,the RTE/UTV Production captured superb action as always and we thank Pat Sullivan Carrignavar for this great Footage,Enjoy.
