Trump Under Fire for Immigration Tactics After ICE Killing

President Donald Trump indicated he’ll make changes to his administration’s deportation crackdown in Minnesota after the killing of two US citizens during immigration raids sparked nationwide uproar.

Trump said he would consider independent investigations into the shootings and reducing the number of federal agents in Minnesota, and the White House suggested it could remove US Customs and Border Protection personnel from Minnesota if state and local law enforcement adopted additional “cooperative measures.”

The federal government is at risk of a partial government shutdown after Senate Democrats said they could not back a funding bill without new curbs on immigration enforcement.

Congressional Republicans are showing signs of wavering on President Donald Trump’s immigration crackdown after a US citizen was shot and killed in Minnesota.

Some Republicans, including Senators Thom Tillis and Bill Cassidy, are calling for an investigation into the shooting, while others are defending immigration agents.

Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer has vowed to block a spending package unless Republicans strip funding for the Department of Homeland Security, increasing the risk of a partial US government shutdown.
