Water pump surgery: I tackle a simple operation on Ermintrude's water works to get things flowing.

There's nothing worse than having a tank full of water and no way of accessing it. That's what happened to us while we were wild camping in North Devon. It was my fault - I left the pump running when the tank was dry and it seized. Usually I carry a spare. But that was the spare and I hadn't restocked. We managed, but replacing the pump at least on our 96 Swift Royale is a relatively simple matter which isn't a problem to replace in the field with a few tools, so learn from our misfortune and carry a spare!

Anyway, back on the drive and a new pump acquired, here's how to replace it. Now, I know that your vehicle is very unlikely to be a 96 Swift, but the purpose of this video is to give you the confidence to tackle your own pump, if it fails. The video features a submersible pump (sits in the water tank). You might have one of those, or an in-line pump (doesn't sit in the tank). Whatever you have, the set-up will be similar to ours, although the layout will be different. There will be an outlet connection that the pump sends the water out through and an electrical connection. If it's an in-line pump, there will be an inlet as well. With a bit of thought and some chin scratching over a cup of tea, you should easily be able to identify what's what.
